If you don’t know, then currently, you still don’t know.

Let me help you know:

2x DMC World Champ + Dancefloor Destroyer + Harvard Math Grad + Top 10 Producer =

New York City’s Shiftee is quite simply one of the most dynamic & innovative DJs on the planet, electrifying crowds from NYC to London to Hong Kong with his unique hybrid of turntablism, new technology, honed party rocking, and exquisite musical curation. With a degree from Harvard, 2 unique DMC World Champion titles, a NYU adjunct professorship & Dubspot DJ program directorship, a top 10 release on Beatport’s genre charts, and an ongoing international tour schedule, this overachiever can do it all.

Shiftee’s prowess as a DJ & performer is unquestioned.   In 2007, Shiftee became the only American DJ to date to have won the DMC Battle for World Supremacy title. This victory served as the catalyst for widespread international recognition, allowing Shiftee to take his talent and creativity across Asia, Europe, and the US to some of the world’s biggest clubs, most prestigious venues, and monster festivals.  In 2009, Shiftee also won the DMC World DJ Championship, was automatically inducted into the DMC DJ Hall of Fame, and finally brought the fabled gold Technics turntables back to NYC.  This title places his name along side over 20+ legendary DMC World Champs including Craze, A-Trak, Cash Money, DJ Cheese, Rock Steady DJs (Apollo, Mix Master Mike & Q-Bert), Plus One of Jack Beats, and the late Grand Master Roc Raida.  Since then, Shiftee’s groundbreaking routine videos have garnished millions of views and helped pave the way forward for the future of DJ performance.

Not only a turntablist, Shiftee is a force to be reckoned with in the mix.  His cutting edge mixtapes have been featured on BBC 1Xtra, Rinse FM, Mishka Keep Watch, Kiss 100 (UK), RBMA Radio, Fools Gold, Deepsession, Get Darker, Seclusiasis, The Rub’s Scion AV Show, Dubspot, Noise 212, URB, and more.  His “UK Meets USA” mixtape series, a collaboration with Butterz head Elijah, has earned widespread critical acclaim from places like Resident Advisor, Noisey, FACT Mag, and many more.  Mishka recently ranked Shiftee’s “Keep Watch” mix as the most memorable of its entire run.

Having already established himself as master in the DJ world, Shiftee has been turning heads as a producer.  His debut release Space Ace, a collaboration with Rx on Rad Summer, hit top 10 on Beatport’s dubstep charts.  His originals and remixes have been receiving support from Rustie (BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix),  Baauer (BBC Diplo & Friends Mix), Starkey, Machinedrum, Salva, Royal-T, Udachi, Plastician, Crizzly, DJ Wonder (Rinse FM), Nick Catchdubs, Pictureplane, Spooky, Dev79, Elijah (Butterz), Mess Kid, Selecta Fewie, Rx, Sonkin, Lamin Fofana, and more.  With tunes already out on Hot Mom USA, Seclusiasis, Deepsession, Slit Jockey, Dutty Artz and LU20, Shiftee is definitely a producer to watch.

Shiftee is also a renowned educator in the field of DJing and DJ technology.  He is an adjunct professor at New York University, the Director of DJ Curriculum at the prestigious Dubspot school in NYC, and an endorsed artist of Native Instruments.  He has guest lectured on DJing at Harvard, Princeton, Bard, HATCH, and more.  The man understands DJing!  Beyond teaching, Shiftee continues to spend his time figuring out new and innovative ways to decimate the dancefloor. He fuses an astute ear for forward thinking music with a world champion skill set & grasp of technology, creating an experience that is always jaw dropping.

  1. I came here because I heard you teach salsa dancing. Do you play salsa music on your gold turntables? I don’t really like salsa, I just like wearing puffy flamboyant shirts. Can I still be your friend and come to your salsa classes? If so, are there any hot girls in your salsa classes? And if so, can you tell them not to come, they make me sweaty and nervous.

  2. LOL Thanks man! :) For real, love what you do and thanks for the free skratch lesson videos. Insanely dope! Hope I can see you killin a live set some day and get to meet you. Peace and blessings dude!

    • When I’m practicing for a battle, 3-5 hours on the decks. Otherwise, I’m spending more of my time these days working on beats and looking for new music. Probably like 1 hour/day on the decks at the moment. However, I try to spend all day every day working on music in some form.

  5. Big inspiration man. Especially seeing someone extremely educated, it’s more motivation for me to continue to stay at my university while still DJing wherever I can, and expanding my horizons.

    Thanks for being an inspiration!

  6. If you had 2000 dollars to spend to buy your first DJ gear, what would you buy? I am an aspiring DJ on a tight budget.
